Newgrange

Ms Kennedy's 6th class students went on a tour to Newgrange on Thursday the 6th of February. The bus left the school at 9:00am and returned shortly after lunch. Newgrange is a 5,200 year old passage tomb. It was built by Stone Age farmers. Archaeologists classified it as a passage tomb. On the 21st of Decenber, the passage and chamber is iluminated by the Winter Soltice Sun, as long as the skies are not overcast. Our class had a guided tour inside the passage tomb and our guide demonstrated what the Winter Solstice would look like when it was lit up. The class also had a guided tour of the Visitor Centre. In the Visitor Centre, we got to see an Audio Visual Presentation of the inside of the passage tomb. We had lots of fun and learned a lot of interesting facts. I would highly recommend this tour.
